FAQ’s

Thinking of planning a visit to St. Mark’s? We’d love to have you! Click any of the drop-down menu items to learn more about what you can expect.

  • Each of our Sunday worship services lasts between 50 minutes and 1 hour. Our Wednesday evening prayer service lasts 20 to 30 minutes.

  • Yes! Children are always welcome, and we have several places for children to participate in faith formation on Sunday mornings. To start, we want you to know that children are welcome to stay with you in worship, and we have a designated “prayer ground” in our sanctuary where little ones can engage with the service using age-appropriate materials as well as a sound-isolated cry room.

Beyond that, we offer Sunday School programs from 9:45–10:45am for students age 3 to 12th grade, and nursery care is available Sunday mornings from 8:15am–12:15pm for infants to children age 4.

  • On Sunday mornings we offer three different worship services, each embracing a different worship style. All services feature music, scripture readings, a sermon, communion, and congregational prayers.

Our Blended Liturgical Service at 8:30am is liturgically traditional. Pastors are robed in traditional garments and the service features sung liturgy throughout.

Musically, this service draws on a wide variety of musical traditions for both hymns and special music – from Scandinavian folk tunes to Asian or Latin American songs of praise; from medieval chants to African American spirituals – celebrating the rich variety of music that God has given to the Church.

Our Contemporary Praise Service at 9:45am is less liturgically traditional than the other two services.

The music at this service draws from a wide catalogue of contemporary Christian music, and is led by a band, which includes guitars, piano, and drums.

The 11am Traditional Service offers a continuation of the rich traditions of the Lutheran church which have been preserved over the decades.

Traditional hymns, liturgy, organ playing, and worship style represent a celebration of the ways in which many Lutherans have come to worship God for centuries.

Wednesday nights, we gather by candlelight around a large cross for our Evening Prayer Service to sing and pray and to hear words of scripture.

Throughout the year, this service draws upon music from the Taize and Iona worshipping communities, as well as Evening Prayer settings from Holden Village in Washington.

  • People at St. Mark's dress in a variety of ways for Sunday worship, and all are welcome and accepted. If you want to "dress up" a bit for worship, awesome! If you want to just throw on your favorite hoodie and jeans, that's awesome too! Either way, we're glad you're here.

  • Not at all. We do have an "offering" portion of every service, where we celebrate the many gifts of our community. During this time, many people who are connected to St. Mark's offer financial donations to sustain the ministries of St. Mark's and our community partners, but visitors are in no way expected to give. We're just glad you are here!

  • Our Sanctuary is accessible by wheelchair from both the upper and lower entrances (the lower entrance has an elevator to the main floor), and there is also a wheelchair ramp on the side of the stage for those involved in worship leadership. Our ushers will help you find the best seating option to accommodate your needs.

St. Mark’s has a hearing loop system as well as headsets to help amplify elements of the service for those with hearing-related needs. If you’d like to receive a headset, our ushers will provide you with one.

  • For more information on the variety of activities and programs for all ages available at St. Mark's, you can visit our ministries page. We have a regular bible study group, a variety of adult education opportunities, music ministries, and much more going on within the walls of St. Mark’s and beyond our doors.
